Run, Run As Fast As You Can

This week the children have begun a mini unit on gingerbread men.  This is a short unit that will end next week.  The students are listening to various versions of the stories and discussing differences and similarities between them.  Here a few of the stories that I read to the class throughout the week.

The students also enjoyed the various fine motor projects that we did with these stories as well.

We made gingerbread man glyphs.  Students answered an assortment of questions and their answers depicted how they would get to decorate their gingerbread man.

We also worked on a trace and cut activity.  The students had to trace a gingerbread man and then cut it out.

We also colored pieces to be used for a gingerbread house.  When cut out, the children glued them onto their house in the location that they wanted.

The Morning Class Takes A Trip to Jefferson County Park

Jefferson County Park was a blast!  The students had a great time with Therese.  While at the park, Therese had so many fun and exciting things planned for us.

We took a look at Therese's turtles and got to feed her fish in the nature center.

Therese let us try on a turtle shell .

We listened to different woodland animal sounds.

All the students took turns trying to see if they were as big as a bear.

Therese let us help her feed the birds at the park.

We went on a walk and ended up in a cluster of pine trees.  Therese let the children cover her in a pine needle blanket.  They thought this was great!

We ended our trip with some time to play at the park playground.

A Rainbow of Shapes! - Week 2

Our color unit took two weeks to complete.  During the second week, we worked on more colors and shapes.  The students were very busy and had a great time learning!

Students wore the colors Pink and Purple and studied the shape of a heart.  We made a person out of different sizes of hearts in the colors of pink and purple.

On Tuesday, we wore black and brown to school and made a snake by alternating ovals in the two colors.

On Thursday, we wore the colors white and gray and colored a star gray and sprinkled silver glitter on top.

On Friday, we wore green clothes to school and practiced our cutting skills by cutting out a rhombus out of green construction paper.

Happy Halloween!

This past week we have been reading Halloween books and doing fun projects in anticipation for the upcoming holiday.  Here are a few favorite book picks from week:
Connor's favorite book of the week was We're Going on a Ghost Hunt by Kris Hirschmann.

Connor said that he liked "the haunted house.  I'm not scared in the haunted house and I run fast with my fast new shoes."

America's favorite book of the week was 10 Trick or Treaters by Janet Schulman.

America said she liked when they "knocked on the doors and the pirate girl."

Abigail said that her favorite book this week was Scaredy-Cat, Splat! by Rob Scotton.

Abgail said "I like the scary part."

The students had a great week and are very excited for what Halloween may bring on Monday.
